Indian Air force common test for admission TEST (AFCAT)

INTRODUCTION: 


The Indian Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a highly competitive exam that is conducted twice a year in the months of February and August. The exam is conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for recruiting officers in various branches such as Flying Branch, Technical Branch, and Ground Duty Branch. The exam is open to both male and female candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.


Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria for the AFCAT exam are quite stringent, and candidates must meet all the requirements to apply for the exam. To be eligible for the exam, candidates must be Indian citizens, and they must meet the age limit set by the IAF. For the Flying Branch, candidates must be between 20 to 24 years of age, while for Technical and Ground Duty Branches, the age limit is 20 to 26 years. In addition, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognized university. For technical branches, candidates must have completed a four-year degree program in engineering/technology. Finally, candidates must be physically fit and meet the minimum requirements set by the IAF.


Exam Pattern:

The AFCAT exam is a computer-based test with a duration of two hours. The exam consists of four sections: General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test. The number of questions in each section varies every year. The General Awareness section tests the candidate’s knowledge of current affairs, history, geography, sports, science, and culture. The Verbal Ability in English section tests the candidate’s proficiency in English grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. The Numerical Ability section tests the candidate’s knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Finally, the Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test section tests the candidate’s logical reasoning, spatial ability, and decision-making skills. There is a negative marking of 1/3 marks for each incorrect answer.


Syllabus:

To prepare for the AFCAT exam, candidates must be familiar with the syllabus for each section. The General Awareness section includes questions related to current affairs, history, geography, sports, science, and culture. Candidates can stay updated on current affairs by reading newspapers and current affairs magazines regularly. The Verbal Ability in English section includes questions related to English grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. Candidates can improve their English language skills by reading books and practicing grammar exercises. The Numerical Ability section includes questions related to basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Candidates can improve their numerical skills by practicing numerical problems and formulas regularly. The Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test section includes questions related to logical reasoning, spatial ability, and decision-making skills. Candidates can improve their logical reasoning and decision-making skills by practicing puzzles and brain teasers.
